Like SG, the Swiss city of Geneva is known for its safety and great food. But – surprise! – the similarities don’t end there.
If you like Singapore’s impressive MRT, then you’ll love Switzerland’s famed train network. From Geneva, the Lavaux vineyards – a UNESCO site – are about 45 minutes away. “It is home to dozens of winemakers with stellar views across Lake Geneva,” shares NZ expat Marc Checkley. This 580-square-kilometre lake is the biggest body of water in Western Europe, with the Geneva Beach here being a must-see stretch. Tour The Old Town, and visit St. Peter’s Cathedral, built between 1536 and 1564, or the circa-1909 Reformation Wall.
New Zealander Marc Checkley lived in Singapore before moving to Switzerland two years ago. Here’s what he’s loving there:
“I enjoy cruising Lake Geneva on the old steam ships to places like Yvoire (France) and Vevey. There’re also great events held on or nearby the lake each summer, like the Riviera Food Festival.”
“Geneva is connected to dozens of cities in Europe by train. There are direct routes to Milan, Paris and Lyon and many more. It makes for great weekend adventures away.”
