The Fair started in circa-1990 Singapore with just 20 vendors. Today, it still organises popular expat fairs, including this Spring 2019 edition of The Indian Bazaar. Design Orchard, a new mall dedicated to showcasing local designs and labels, is hosting a weekends-only pop up cafe. Helmed by sugar manufacturer Jewels Rock Sugar and fashion brand Ying the Label, the event is also supported by food and beverage brands Kombynation Co., Six Foot Coffee, Rainbow Lapis and The Quarter. Well, you should. Though the holiday – commemorating the death of Ireland’s patron saint – actually falls on 17 March, there are events and specials throughout March, including:
- Gan Ainm kicks off Paddy’s season at Molly Malone’s Irish Pub with an “absolute WALL OF SOUND” from 8:30 p.m., March 1. Find out more.

Or, “Laissez les bons temps rouler“, as they say in New Orleans, which will be partying it up during the annual Mardi Gras festival (1 to 6 March, 2019). While Fat Tuesday isn’t as big a deal in SG as it is in Louisiana, the Caribbean, South America or France (where it’s called Carnival, just SYK), you can get a taste of the action at “Ode to Mardi Gras”, hosted by 1880 this 2 March.
There’ll be live jazz and hip hop music for you to shake your booty the night away in this luxe member’s club. The event is free for members and from $48 for guests of members. Minimum spend from $1,000 for a table for 10. Reservations are required.

SingaPlural 2019, organised by the Singapore Furniture Industries Council, is based on the theme ”Unnatural Phenomena”, which explores the origin and evolution of extraordinary hybrids when disciplines collapse, mix and morph in shared pursuits. The Textures festival returns for a second year to spotlight Singapore literature with a theme of “Love and Loss (and some things in between)” this 7 to 10 March at The Arts House. Co-commissioned with #BuySingLit and supported by the National Arts Council, Textures 2019 delves into how words capture and decipher a spectrum of emotions, with a curated lineup of programmes that transcend traditional literary art forms.

Three-time Grammy Award-winning, multi-platinum band Maroon 5 will bring its “Red Pill Blues” Tour to Singapore this 7 March at the National Stadium. MeshMinds 2.0: ArtxTechforGood returns to the ArtScience Museum with a lineup of 24 interactive and visually enthralling installations from 7 to 17 March. Local artists will present immersive pieces that seek to tackle global sustainability challenges outlined by the UN Sustainable Development Goals, such as climate change, rising inequality and pollution. Go on experiential journeys like the vast ocean floor, or even to the distant future!

National Arts Council’s Art In Your Neighbourhood is back for its twelfth run and the focus is Tampines — Singapore’s third largest new town, and a former rubber plantation and site to sand quarries (learn about the history and current haps of all of SG’s nabes here!).

Back at Fort Canning Park for a fifth year, the Garden Beats festival brings together up-and-coming artists who bridge indie, R&B and electro music genres, along with eco-heroes sharing their inspiring stories in Conscious Circle talks on Saturday, 9 March.
What’s new? The venue moves from the Fort Gate to Fort Green to accommodate up to 8,000 festival goers. International Furniture Fair Singapore (IFFS) is ASEAN’s leading furniture fair, and a must-go during the annual Singapore Design Week for anyone in the market for new furnishings or just a fan of good product design. This well-curated, four-day event is tailor-made for businesses and connoisseurs alike!
The theme of IFFS 2019 is “UrbanAsia – the Future of Urban Living”, and will focus on understanding major challenges and identifying sustainable solutions for an ever-growing population of urban dwellers. Admission is free, but registration is required.

Lovers of all things Nippon, listen up. Soak in three weeks worth of Japanese culture and entertainment at the Sakura Matsuri, a cherry blossom festival, at Gardens by the Bay. View blooming sakura blossoms at the Flower Dome while enjoying Japanese food, products and games from the country at the Nippon Street, where you can even rent the traditional yukata (a summer kimono).
Moreover, you can immerse yourself with cultural programmes such as the wadaiko (Japanese drums) and chado (tea ceremony). To finish, behold performances by celebrity cosplayers, anime singers and pop culture performances.

Last held in 2017, the family-friendly Singapore Festival of Fun is held in three parts. It kicks off with The Street Fest, on from March 14 to 19 at the Clarke Quay Fountain Square. Expect street circus and acrobatic performances from local and foreign artists. Don’t miss the International Comedy Festival on March 15, 16, 21, 22 and 23, and where comedians like Imran Yusuf and Tom Green are set to take the stage.
The Nickelodeon Fiesta will take place on March 23 and 24, and kids will be thrilled with the game booths featuring themes from familiar shows like Dora the Explorer and SpongeBob Squarepants. Events are free, except for the comedy shows.

Show support for persons with Down syndrome by attending this event at Our Tampines Hub. With the theme “Leave No One Behind”, the event is organised by the Down Syndrome Association Singapore (DSA), and it marks the 14th year the World Down Syndrome Day has been commemorated in Singapore. Aimed at raising awareness and building a more inclusive society, the event will begin with a community walk launched by Minister of Education Ong Ye Kung.
A family carnival will also be held, with activities and entertainment that include aikido and zumba performances by members of the DSA. The funds raised will contribute to the DSA’s support services, educational and enrichment programmes.

In the adventure documentary A Plastic Ocean, journalist Craig Leeson starts off searching for the elusive blue whale and instead discovers plastic waste in what should be pristine ocean.

Singapore Urban Design Festival, conceptualised by LOPELAB and as part of Singapore Design Week, aims to champion sustainable urban development through education and unique experiences. Conceptualised and designed by actor and arts educator Noorlinah Mohamed, KidsConnect is a unique arts carnival hosted by young people for young people. In fact, the kids will be doing all of the hosting, facilitating and performing at the two-day, peer-to-peer carnival at creative space Playeum!

As part of Singapore Design Week, leading international design studio HASSELL is offering a range of events for all ages, including HASSELL Dialogues for adults only 9 March.
On 16 March, however, HASSELL throws open the doors of its Singapore studio and welcomes families to work with its award-winning team to create the future of their dreams. Local Indian dance institute Bharathaa Arts is staging a production based on ula, a body of Hindu literature that dates back to the Pallava period (273CE to 897CE). Images of the gods will come alive in this traditional dance performance. Music featured will be from the late Bhagavatulu Seetarama Sarma, who’s known for his contributions to dance and music, especially the dance-drama genre. Tickets at $25.
