For places reminiscent of home

Derek and Janelle went to the same chiro college in California, and moved to Singapore in 2008.

Most days, you’ll find their fam enjoying the Garden City’s great outdoors – just like the old times!

For Asian comfort food

Derek is a big fan of the Chinese herbal soups at Souper Tang. “The broth is nourishing, healing and souper tasty.” So punny, this guy.

… And comfort wear

Derek’s shorts story: Cali casual.

“On a typical day, I’m in black Volcom Hybrid shorts with either a tank top or – if I want to dress it up – a fitted, solid-colour polo shirt. The heat doesn’t allow me to wear pants!” he jokes.

For his cuppa joe

At Starbucks, ask for a “latte half breve with an extra shot,” which is an espresso with half milk, half cream and “full of healthy fats,” he suggests. “It’s a game changer!”

For date night

“On the rare occasion that Janelle and I go out for cocktails, I like a good one,” says Derek. He loves CUT by Wolfgang Puck’s Duke of Earl, which features an Earl Grey tea-infused gin.

For good skin

“I don’t put anything on my body that I don’t want in my body,” explains Derek of his skin-care philosophy. “A lot of modern products have toxins in them that the skin quickly absorbs into the blood.”

The only thing he uses: Dr. Bronner’s unscented Castile soap.
