Variety is the spice of life at Sir Manasseh Meyer International School (SMMIS), as it provides students with an enriching curriculum focused on collaboration and enquiry-based learning.
SMMIS follows the British National Curriculum: Literacy, Singapore Maths curriculum and FOSS Science methods. As Singapore’s only Jewish international school, it offers Hebrew and Mandarin as second-language study options.
A community spirit is valued at SMMIS, and its teachers make it a point to know each student. As members of the Inter-Religious Organisation (IRO), the leadership of the school is committed to the vision of the IRO: racial harmony in Singapore. SMMIS’s value-based education emphasises that each student is part of a global community and needs to play a role in making the world a better place.
Giving students the knowledge to become part of today’s scientific and technology-based society, STEAM education is at the forefront of SMMIS’s educational approach. Recently, the school’s Art and Design educator attended an International Makerspace conference in London, which inspired the creation of a dedicated design and digital technologies Makerspace Programme within the school.
The SMMIS Makerspace Programme provides students with creative, hands-on ways to design, experiment, build and invent; the designated space is filled with scientific instruments, visual arts materials, woodworking tools, and technology such as 3D printing and robotics equipment. It encourages students to work collaboratively, which SMMIS believes is an essential skill for the 21st century.
“The strength of the school is its teachers. All of the staff of SMMIS share a vision, love and passion for educating the children. They are committed to building a wonderful safe and loving community where children can flourish. The school is playing a vital role in defining Ishaan’s character. When he comes back home, the wonderful stories from his day at school are such a treat to hear. The syllabus and the activities at the school are empowering Ishaan to deal with the infinite possibilities that life has to offer.” – Manasi Pawanaskar, mother of Ishaan, Grade 2
