Named after the popular Arthur Ransome novel, Swallows and Amazons focuses on emotional development in an enquiry-based early years programme.
Learning is through purposeful play and its teachers do not adopt a “lecture-style” approach. Instead, they create a learning environment for children to explore and discover. The school works with student-teacher ratio of 5:1. For students between 5 and 6, the ratio is 6:1. It aims to create a familiar atmosphere for parents, where each of the 65 children enrolled in the school has a sense of success and an achievable outcome every day. The school has achieved the Singapore Pre-School Accreditation Framework Certification (SPARK) for the third time.
Other awards include the Singapore Excellence Award, Female Entrepreneur Award and the Luminary distinction in the Singapore Prestige Awards 2016-2017. Below are some of the school’s objectives:
Students are given plenty of time and attention to learn and understand their emotions and the world around them.
If children only do what they are told, then it becomes a “task.” Young children need lots of practice and patient encouragement in their learning, and having fun while working together is just as important as completing the task.
Children are taught to try new things with creativity and a “can do” attitude. Risk-taking is stimulating and rewarding, and teachers will adjust their learning challenges as the children’s stamina increases.
“My husband and I have been extremely happy with the dedication of the teachers at Swallows and Amazons. Our son isn’t just being equipped with a strong academic foundation, he is also being taught life skills, and is having fun all at the same time! – Toni Lian, mum to Austen, 2, Pre-nursery
