Working Abroad And On The Move? Here’s How This VITAL Network Can Make Your Life EASIER

Founder John Marcarian's CST Tax Advisors and Expatland Global Network are made up of international experts – who are all about you!
03 May 2019

John Marcarian founded thriving CST Tax Advisors in Singapore 15 years ago.

But, that accomplishment alone isn’t what clinched him the “Longevity Award” in The Finder’s Expatpreneur Awards 2019. This special award also acknowledges John’s strong commitment to serving fellow expats in Singapore and around the globe throughout his life.

John’s own unique third-culture childhood – being raised between India, London and Australia – as well as his love of travel and international tax, led him to found the Expatland Global Network here in early 2018 as a non-profit entity. “Being an expat has been very rewarding for my family life – we see much more than we would in Australia,” shares John. “The experiences we have been fortunate to have are truly as a result of Expatland.”

What is Expatland?

Based on his 2015 book of the same name, it is a “virtual country” where expatriates live and work. At latest count, roughly 244 million people live in Expatland. “If it were a single country, it would be the fifth largest country in the world after China, India, the U.S. and Indonesia,” he explains. Expatland itself aimed to equip expats with knowledge about the ever-changing financial landscape and offer smart ways to prepare for an international move – with their families, businesses or both.

After writing the book, he says he got numerous requests to produce city versions of Expatland for countries around the world. His online Expatland Global Network now fills that gap in the market with Expatland Teams, or E-Teams, in more than 15 cities in the U.S., Australia, Europe, Asia and Africa. These hand-picked service providers – covering relocation property, taxes, insurance and more – assist expats in settling into their new home cities.

Building Relationships

Even while John is traversing the planet to expand his network of E-Teams, he hasn’t neglected his long-standing Singapore business, which changed the game back in 2004 by delivering private client tax solutions in both the arrival country and departure country of expats. Today, CST Tax Advisors has more than 1,200 clients in 30 countries.

It’s not surprising that this friendly Aussie says being in contact with a wide array of people from all walks of life is his favourite part of running both CST Tax Advisors and Expatland. “I like building relationships and marketing new ways of doing things,” he says.
