“Killiney Kopitiam is the oldest Hainanese coffee shop in Singapore, and its history dates back to 1919,” shares its director Tien Yuan.
The dad of 2-year-old Lauren goes on to share, “We serve the quintessential Singaporean breakfast – Nanyang style coffee or tea, kaya toast and soft boiled eggs.” He also owns Nanyang Beverage, Hoow Foods and Ajaya Gallery, an oriental art gallery unlike his other F&B businesses.
“Aside from Killiney’s chicken curry, my other favourite place is Heng Heng Bak Kut Teh at Owen Road.” He also offers, “I drink a lot of Chinese Pu’Er tea, which is good for digestion.”
That would be collecting art. “My collection largely focuses on ancient devotional sculptures and artifacts,” says Tien Yuan, whose family-run Woon Brothers Foundation aims to advance art and education and more. “Art collecting has taught me to appreciate the lessons of having a long-term vision and also the importance of commitment, since forming a collection is a long journey.”
