Visha Nelson has lived all over the globe, from London to New York and Hong Kong as well.
After spending 20 years abroad, she left her job as a capital markets lawyer and returned to sunny Singapore. “I found that there was a lack of home decor options that were both affordable and unique,” says Visha, who is mum to two “lovely kids” – Harry, 16, and Lara, 14. “In the process of sourcing items and designing for my home, I realised I could turn this into a good business model.” In 2014, The Cinnamon Room was born.
Today, the cosy Holland Village home decor store is a repository for good design and great ideas, as Visha offers her own interior styling services. You can even glean her top decorating tips via the many social media tutorials she began producing during the Circuit Breaker.
When living overseas, Visha recalls, “I would long for all-time SG classics like chicken rice, curry puffs and roti prata.” In town, Samy’s Curry is where she goes for a “good curry fix”. Apart from such iconic local dishes, Visha knows her way around an international menu, too. Some of her favourite restaurants here include COMO Cuisine and The Dempsey Cookhouse & Bar for their eclectic options. And she continues, “I also love Chopsuey Cafe’s Chinese food, where you can dine under the trees, and Super Loco at Robertson Quay for my favourite fusion Mexican mix!”
