“It all began when I was pregnant and couldn’t find a maternity photographer I was comfortable with,”
confesses Maryann Koh, who has an educational background in film and TV production. Her solution? She bought a DSLR camera and became her own photographer by taking her own semi-nude shots of her baby bump with the help of a tripod. “The photos turned out to be very well-received by my friends,” she recalls.
Fast forward to 2006, and Maryann founded all-female photography studio The Studio Loft, which specialises in maternity, newborn and family shoots. In 2018, she opened another children’s themed photography studio (think dinosaur- and pool party-themed rooms) called Little Big Shots.
What does Maryann do in her downtime? “There’s no unwinding unfortunately,” she laments. “I do watch TV and Netflix.” That being said, this mum to Kayden, 15, and Dylan, 12, admits she’d be doing something completely different if she wasn’t running the two studios. “I’d want to be traveling the world with my family!”
