“My dad started the company because he believed quality teak furniture should be available to all,”
explains Julian of Scanteak Group’s beginnings in 1982. “Scandinavian furniture also has the best designs.” Today, it’s grown into a regional brand with headquarters and stores in Taiwan and Japan. But Julian – who is a proud dad to Christian, 6 and Cayla, 3 – is still a humble guy. His goal for the company is simply to leave a positive impact on the lives of his employees and customers.
“In school and in the military, I’ve learnt that if you want to run fast, you run alone. If you want to run far – you run together.”
When it comes to his “me” time, Julian shares, “Jogging helps me think, while meditating keeps me calm.” Spending more time at home due to the pandemic, he says he is more able to enjoy simple pleasures. “I read a lot more, take part in Zoom parties and video games.”
Recently, he treated himself to a cosy couch from X’Clusive Home. “I bought a semi custom-made leather sofa, which I absolutely adore.”
Julian simply can’t hide his love for Singapore. “It’s heaven on Earth!” he gushes. Specifically, he’s a connoisseur of the local cuisine. His fave dishes? “Hokkien Mee, Chicken Rice and Char Kway Teow are my top three.” He also cites Bukit Timah Hawker Center as one of his all-time fave food spots.
