If you’re already a follower of SGAG’s videos on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube, its co-founder Adrian Ang – better known for his online personality Xiao Ming – needs no introduction.
Having founded SGAG with Karl Mak in 2012, he says the site’s origin story is just as random as the hilarious memes it serves out on the regular. “The crazy story of SGAG started in 2012 at the back of a university seminar room,” he recalls. “Dubbed as ‘The Curry Sauce meme’, this first-ever meme created by us went viral shortly after being posted on SGAG, and the rest is history.”
What are his hobbies aside from creating content? Adrian jokes, “I really enjoy hanging out at the bars… more specifically, pull-up bars!” Then, he elaborates, “I installed a pull-up bar in my balcony just so that I can work out from home.”
“I always like to say that when the wine starts flowing, the ideas start flowing, too,” says Adrian with a laugh, noting that he most likes to uncork a bottle of wine at home with his wife, Goh Xin Lei, and their cats. His oenophilia even influences what he says he’d do if he weren’t helming SGAG here: “I’d want to retire in a vineyard in Australia.” However, he might miss his favourite SG specialty: Song Zhou Fried Carrot Cake from Bedok Interchange Hawker Centre. “You can add squid to your carrot cake and the combination is just amazing.”
