Chantal was praised by judge Stephanie Nash for her “leveraged approach with her mattress business being online, but allowing customers to test the product via her Emperor’s Attic store.” Meaning? If you visit the dual shops in the Tan Boon Liat Building, you can peruse impeccably sourced casegoods from Northern China up front and try out 100-percent natural latex mattresses in back.
“I’m just really, really chuffed about being included amongst them,” says British expat Chantal of her fellow “amazing” expatpreneurs. Like many of them, Chantal had a thriving career – several years in retail before 18 years in marketing – prior to running her own businesses in Singapore: She purchased Emperor’s Attic from a departing expat in 2016, and launched Willow Mattress in 2018.
“Thanks to a life coach, I realised I wanted to go back to my original passion of retail,” shares Chantal, who met her husband Damien here in 2002, lived around the region and then returned eight years ago and adopted their 7-year-old son Zack. “I love that it is so hands-on, and I am involved in every aspect from buying to selling and all the bits in-between.”
About The Finder Expatpreneur Awards
In 2017, The Finder debuted its first-ever Expatpreneur Awards to honour foreign-born entrepreneurs running successful expat-owned businesses in or from Singapore. In 2019, 22 expats were awarded for their tremendous dedication. This 2020, a new batch of 19 Expatpreneur Awardees have been unveiled! All of them have one thing in common: Their brands help people “live well in Singapore” – The Finder’s core mission.
