Expatpreneur eAwards 2020: How Dr Elizabeth Biggs And Victoria McKellar Turned Their Passion For Gut Wellness Into A Business

Dr. Elizabeth Biggs and Victoria McKellar, who are both mums, met in Singapore in 2011 and bonded over their mutual passion for gut wellness. “Both of the founders have done great work in the field of wellness,” noted eAwards judge Anne Kinnera. “Their journey together is very inspiring, and the concept of gut health is wondrous.”

This praise is leveled squarely at Akesi Wellness, the brand the pair co-founded in 2017. What sets Akesi apart from other purveyors of gut-health products? Its spritzers and mix-ins are designed to be yummy (the former tastes similar to a not-too-sweet soft drink) and easy to use, so parents don’t have to struggle to ensure their little ones enjoy the supplements.

Australian Elizabeth and Kiwi Victoria know from experience – they have seven kiddos between them. “We love to exercise and encourage our children to do the same, particularly family nature walks every weekend,” share the duo, who also have some serious business street cred: Elizabeth was formerly a practicing medical doctor, while Victoria was in brand management and both are well-versed in the microbiome.
