Are you ready, boo?
Halloween is nearly upon us! Here in Singapore, this spooky holiday sees less door-to-door trick-or-treating and more decked-to-the-nines club-hopping. (You might even hear a thing or two about legendary ghosts around the region!)
And, while finding a costume – without resorting to online retailers with exorbitant shipping fees – may have been quite the challenge in the past, the options have grown exponentially.
Here are our picks for the best places to pick up your get-up for this year’s hair-raising festivities.
Meticulously-lined shelves of masks and helmets adorn this well-stocked outlet near Chinatown – and it does online rentals, too, for the time-strapped or just plain lazy. Plus, you’ve got to give it to these guys for staying relevant. Its vast collection includes the latest in pop culture: Think the titular characters from all the latest blockbusters, such as Valak (from The Nun), Venom and Predator.
Costumes ‘N’ Parties also has an extensive collection of superhero costumes, along with all the usual wigs, masks, props and accessories you might expect.

Well-known craft and household goods store Spotlight stocks all the generic Halloween looks for both adults and children if you’re not too fussed about standing out from the crowd. From Zombie Schoolgirl to Doctor, Nurse or Hippie, the choices are no-frills, but do the job in a pinch.
The kiddie range is a bit more inspired. Your little ones can choose from their favourite superhero or Disney princess, among many others. We recommend buying either long before Halloween, or after, when there might be deep discounts.
Spotlight, Plaza Singapura, Level 5, 68 Orchard Rd., 238839
This decades-old Far East Plaza institution may be tiny in size, but it really packs a punch. Indeed, the shop is a treasure trove of goodies, crammed with all sorts of costumes, props and accessories that will surely inspire a unique Halloween look. If you’re not sure what you’re looking for, just ask the owners – a friendly husband-and-wife pair – for a recommendation.
If nothing else, this is the best place to swing by if you’re in need of something, anything, to wear at the last minute, or if you’re looking for a prop to complete your almost-perfect ensemble.
